When baby’s first birthday rolls around, no one can quite believe that he or she is ALREADY one year old! It happens time and time again and I feel it too! How are my newborns ALREADY back for their baby’s first birthday session? I definitely feel the saying “the days are long, but the years are short” in both my personal life and my business life. Can’t time just slow down?? We love to see our babies grow and develop, but it is bittersweet at the same time… The best thing we can do is roll with it and enjoy the ride! One fun way to celebrate the big first birthday is with a ‘cake smash’ session. This is usually just a portion of your one year milestone session. We start the session as we normally do with ‘clean’ pictures of baby and family and then move to the cake portion for last 20 minutes or so. Some babies love their cake and get really into it and others are not big fans of the sugary mess! I like to keep the cake portion fairly clean and crisp in terms of props and accessories, so that the focus is on the baby and his or her cute little expressions. Here is adorable Cecilia for her first birthday celebration. We did take some ‘clean’ baby portraits in this session, but I thought the cake pictures made a great collage here. 🙂
